Information on Learning Disability Assessment

Dr. King conducts LD assessments for persons over the age of 6:

  • For persons aged 6 to 90 years - the Woodcock-Johnson® III NU Complete (WJ NU III ®) "provides a comprehensive system for measuring general intellectual ability, specific cognitive abilities, scholastic aptitude, oral language, and academic achievement."

  • Assessment for ADD/ADHD - in addition to the LD assessment, Dr. King administers the Conners’ Continuous Performance Test II (CPT II) to assess for ADD/ADHD.

The cost for an LD assessment is $600, which includes an initial meeting (15-30 minutes), the IQ assessment (which can take up to two hours), cognitive/achievement testing (up to two hours) and an individualized written report.

The cost for a complete ADD/ADHD assessment is $750, which includes an initial meeting (15-30 minutes), the IQ assessment (which can take up to two hours), cognitive/achievement testing (up to two hours), the CPT II administration,  and an individualized written report.

Why Get Tested?
IQ tests, in conjunction with cognitive/achievement tests, allow the examiner to determine if there is a gap between what a person is able to learn and what they have learned.  LD assessments measure basic psychological processes and indentify specific skill deficits, and are used are by schools and colleges to create IEPs (Individual Education Plans) and to provide reasonable accommodations to students with learning disabilities.  While many public school systems do provide testing at no charge, there is usually one psychologist assigned to many schools, and it can sometimes take months to get your child tested.
